How do I use Check The Diary?

By signing up to CTD you get a profile, your own private part of the site. You can then import all of your friends email addresses, invite them to join CTD too. Once set up you can then search for individual events, or entire diaries of organisations / people that interest you. You can then add this to your diary and you can then see all that is going on with that organisation or person. By finding events, sharing them, inviting friends you can organise your whole social life. You can comment and add pictures to events as well.

Additionally you can use the 2 diaries that you get with your account. One is Public; this can be seen by all of your friends. (Remember you have to agree for someone to be your friend). The second one is private. This can only be seen by you.

How do you add additional public or private diaries?

Click on 'add diary'. This diary will be a private diary, IE the default setting on all events you add will be Private. To share this information change the event to public in the 'further details' section of the event creation window.

How do I invite my friends to an event that I have found on the site?

Once you have found an event, you click 'add to my diary' then choose the diary you wish to add it to, you may have extra diaries you have set up which are more relevant than the 2 you get when you open the account. IE 'Music diary' and you have found a gig you want to go to with some of your friends. Once added to your diary, you then click on the invite panel, select the friends you wish to attend from your address book and click invite.

TOP TIP: If you are inviting most of your friends to an event and you do not want a couple of others to find out about it, we suggest you add / set up the event in your private diary (which only you can see) and then send out the invites. This means that if any uninvited friends look at your shared diary they can't see 'my birthday party' and then they don't ask whether they can come too!

How do I import my friends?

Go to the address book section of the site and click on 'import'. CTD is able to import from all of the major email address books. The instructions are very simple. Once they are imported, you can invite your friends to join as well.

How do I use the address book?

Once you have invited your friends to join CTD you can set up groups IE: Golf Mates, Pub Mates, School Mates, Committee X and so on, and then add the relevant friend to the group. This means that when you create an event and invite people you can just click on the relevant group and it adds all of their names in one go.

How does the invite system work?

By adding the people you want to the invite list for an event, you need to click on their name to highlight it, when this is done this means that they will be invited when you click on 'done'.

How do I deal with an invite?

If you get invited to an event you will have an invite in your messages box. This will also be shown on the dashboard, simply click on the invite and it will show you what the event is. If you click on accept, it gets added to your diary (you will be asked which one to add it to), it is advisable that if there are possibly people who may not be going who should not know about the event, and then this should be added to a private diary.

How do I invite a non-friend to an event?

If they are not a member of CTD, you can enter their email address into the invite panel; click 'add' and this will add them to the invite list. If they happen to be on the CTD database you will be told and then you can add them to the invite list. When you have invited a non-friend to an event their address will be automatically added to the address book, click on the invite link and then they can also be invited to join.

How do I sync my diary?

Click on the RSS logo this will open up all of the sharing software. Here you can share a widget, import from other calendars, export via Icals or .csv, add to your other social networking sites.

How do I add pictures?

If you open the event to which the pictures are relevant you can add the picture by clicking on the add picture button. If you have a gallery on-line with Picasa, flicker etc... you can add the link directly into this panel as well.

What happens if someone is hassling me, or I know that someone is misusing CTD?

CTD takes matters like this very seriously, and will press for the strictest penalties for anybody found behaving illegally. If you are experiencing abusive behaviour on this site, or believe that someone else is behaving in this way please click on the abuse button (which is on every page) and report the individual concerned. We will keep your identity anonymous, and will investigate immediately.

What happens if I add an event from a diary I have added to my profile?

Let's say event X is in the diary of venue Y. When you add the event to your diary it will then change colour, IE from the venues diary colour to yours. If you switch off your diary so it is not visible, the event will change to the venues diary colour and vice versa, when both diaries are visible it will default to your diary colour.

What happens if I invite people to an event and then I cancel it, or need to change the time of it?

Go to messages and send a message to all of the people who have been invited. We advise you say that you are cancelling the event, and that they should delete it from their diaries. If you are changing the event, then we suggest that you message the people and tell them that you are moving the event and that they still delete the event, and then you set up the event again at the new time. You cannot change the time of the event, once people have said they are coming, because at the changed time, people may not still be able to make it.

What happens if events clash in your diary?

Events at the same time will appear next to each other in the diary, obviously events from different diaries will be in different colours. When you hover over one of the events it will move to the front to be completely visible, putting the other(s) in the background.

What do I do if I have so many events in my Diary I can't see what is going on?

CTD has a filter system. Set up filters, and save them. Each filter can be a combination of switched on diaries and also a search name in the filters search field. Save this out, then you can navigate using the different filters, keeping the Diaries clear from too much information.
